MEG STEWART

MEG STEWART

Although our fragile bodies limit our time in physical form, our souls are transcendental and infinite. What we do and with whom we share our lives while we are on this earth becomes part of our story, of our legacy—leaving behind pieces of ourselves so that our loved ones can create something beautiful with it when we are gone, even when beauty is obscured by grief.

Meg Stewart is a visual artist, illustrator, professional photographer, and haiku master. She’s the founder of The Art of Grief, a collection of abstract art pieces and poetry dedicated to the loving memory of her husband, Jerry Stewart.

Under The Sea

This love story turned into art and became a story about creativity and transformation, which goes beyond the clichés about happiness and soul mates. Jerry and Meg met in the Fall of 1998 and got married in 2004. They were like John Lennon and Yoko, destined to unite their hearts to create a fascinating piece of art with their love.

Jerry was the painter and the multifaceted Creative Soul who was admired by all. He found in Meg the perfect canvas to paint his masterpiece, and he continues to co-create with Meg, guiding her through the right path, brightening the way with the light of his soul, and reminding her how spectacular and ravishing she is.

Sadly, Jerry was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. In the two years that followed, Meg stood by Jerry’s side, caring for him. Her love for him continues to palpitate and with every stroke, she leaves a piece of her heart on the canvas, and with every word she writes, Jerry’s love goes on.

It can be hard to describe how it feels when the unavoidable of life takes a loved one. The awful pain opens a hole in the chest, making every part of the body feel as if it’s vanishing, and whatever we are left with goes unnoticed because the physical world no longer makes sense.

Missing Pieces

Meg had to embark on a journey that was not part of her and Jerry’s vision board. There is no need to describe the dark night of the soul that she went through in detail, but the courage inside her veins, and the love she shared with Jerry, boosted her senses and helped her stand on her two feet and begin the process of healing. Meg sought ways to conduct her pain, joining a grief group program where she was guided to use art to approach grief differently. This is how The Art of Grief was born.

Exposed

Through The Art of Grief, Meg allows the art to take charge to help reveal what she’s truly feeling. This practice serves as a tool to help her understand what she can’t put into words. Meg lets it all out through the brush, going from canvas to canvas, facing her emotions and embracing them, missing him, her eternal love.

During the pandemic, Meg decided to create an Instagram profile to share her extensive collection of abstract art, not knowing how much she would impact people’s lives. Her art is eye-catching and profound. It’s visual emotion on paper.

Bloom Again

Most of the art supplies Meg uses were Jerry’s – charcoal, ink, oil pastels, and watercolor, to name a few. She sells her art by request, on canvas, watercolor, mixed media, and acrylic.

Feeling underwater, lost, and broken is a continuous routine for the grieving heart. Meg has found refuge in her Creative Soul to give her the necessary space to feel comfortable as she allows art to take charge and shape her days and nights.

Besides painting to express her grief, Meg also started writing haiku poems to Jerry. She wrote many heartfelt poems, turning them into a book titled Grief Haiku, available on Amazon.

Can we just be kind?” Meg is asking us. “We don’t know how much weight the other carries, so please be empathetic. Ask yourself why someone has certain reactions. Try to be kind because something dark may be happening to them. Stop and think, breathe.” Meg is encouraging us to take responsibility for our actions and be considerate of others, even when they may treat us in a hurtful way.

Life is a long road filled with smiles and tears, and when the path leads to tragic experiences, our reason for existence can disappear. It can take many, many years to recover and a whole lot of courage to decide to do it. The pain doesn’t go away; we just learn to live with it, find the light within it, and finally see its beauty.

Meg is the most beautiful example of how to rise from the ashes. She is like the mighty Phoenix, and she has risen, filling the world with the colors of her Creative Soul.

LUKE LEVI

LUKE LEVI

The art of poetry is the rhythm of words dancing to the emotions etched in the depths of the writer’s soul. Whatever the muse is, a poet can elevate their meaning with verses that express joy, sorrow, rage, courage, and so many other emotions. Creative Soul, Luke Levi, reveals his deep connection with the fauna and the flora around him, inspiring him to write some of the most incomparable poems anyone can read.

Luke Levi is a writer, poet, photographer, and author, based in Austin, Texas. He became interested in poetry during high school and gravitated toward novels and short fantasy stories. He became a full-time writer and has been published in several magazines.

He can be considered one of the top writers and storytellers in the field of haiku poetry, as well as a top-notch writer and storyteller. He’s one of those writers who makes you fall in love with poetry, imbuing our souls with his tender imagination. Luke’s latest book, “So Fragile Are The Beautiful Things” is a compilation of his poetry, including some haiku, available in print and as an e-book.

Luke’s creative soul flows to the beat of Mother Nature. He writes about his experiences while being held in the arms of the wind or witnessing a vulture’s mighty flight. His poetry describes the delicacy of a flower, the grandiosity of a tree, and the curiosity of a bird – he has a way of encapsulating those special moments, lost in nature, and making us feel as if we’re there, hearing the buzz of a bee or feeling the sun setting in our hearts.

Universal and spiritual concepts are a big part of Luke’s poetry, integrating ideas of life and death, sadness and hope. Luke explains that “people are part of nature,” and his graceful poetry helps us experience the essence of Gaia, with its moments of beauty, pain, transformation, and re-birth.

Luke combines his passion for photography and poetry to share eye-catching posts on his social media platforms. He is a kind and humble soul, and reading his work fills the spirit with instant wonder.

“Be who you are. Learn who you are,” this is Luke’s message to the world. It is a reminder that we should give ourselves the chance to get to know all parts of ourselves, understand what we want in this life, and work diligently to achieve our goals. Remembering that we are part of something magnificent – we are nature and nature is us.

SUNNY STRANGE

SUNNY STRANGE

There is a new generation of Creative Souls that is longing for oneness, making us aware that we don’t need to be categorized, divided, or pin-pointed down. And every so often an artist comes along to be the face and the voice of that union. Sunny Strange is here to show us through her captivating art forms how we can be one community with one heartbeat, not worrying about our identity but embracing our authenticity.

Sunny Strange is a photographer, model, and writer – a multifaceted Creative Soul from South Florida. Sunny is a nonbinary Creative Soul, who identifies with all genders. For purposes of this article, I will refer to Sunny Strange as she/her, though they/she/he is here to represent everyone.

Sunny was a poet before she even began to write, reciting poems to her mom, who would help her write down her precious lines and stories. She attended Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida, focusing her creative path on writing and communication arts. Being in a creative environment helped her hone her skills and expand as an artist, presenting great opportunities for growth.

Being a Creative Soul has encouraged me to open up to every art form, and not limit myself to any specific medium or concept. I try to have a growth mindset and expand my talents across a full spectrum of ideas and emotions and turn it into art. I think anything and everything can be art in some way.”

Photography has been one of Sunny’s favorite creative outlets, specializing in portraits. She enjoys captivating people in their humanity – showing in raw form the emotional state they are invoking and capturing the unique personal essence of the subject. Going hand in hand with her modeling career, she unfolded her creative talents simultaneously. Modeling feels natural for her, channeling a vibe, alchemizing the emotions she brings to life through her beauty, getting lost in her aquamarine eyes and mesmerizing essence.

Her current project, Laundry Day, is her debut as a director. It is a film she wrote in collaboration with Corey Wayne (Producer, Writer, Director) and Joshua Lee Bashknight (Producer, Editor) about the world of socks on laundry day and their perception of their world as a way to compare our global circumstances. She has shared many other creative projects on her charming Instagram profile, and we can stay up to date by following her @sunny.strange.

Sunny also had the privilege of collaborating with Anouk Wipprecht, a fashion tech designer from The Netherlands now based out of Miami. Sunny modeled two of Anuok’s cutting-edge fashion dresses, the “EEG incorporated Pangolin Dress,” featured on the League of Extraordinary Makers for Channel News Asia, and the “Drink Bot Dress,”  featured at the Science Center’s 60th Anniversary Makers Gala.  Working with Anouk really showed Sunny that there is a whole world of modeling and fashion that isn’t just the typical beauty standard– there is a place in fashion for people who are innovating and breaking the mold, doing stuff that’s high concept, highly creative, and even a little weird.

I am All and I am One.

To Sunny, we are more than just the physical body. We are energy, we are spirit, we are vibrations. We are the divine feminine and the divine masculine all at the same time in one body.

We are expected to fit a particular role in society but this can set us up for failure and it blurs the identity of our souls with what is acceptable vs. what is not, and if it is not true to who we really are.” Sunny explains. “We can lose ourselves in the expectations of society and feel burdened by other people’s thoughts.

Sunny believes that as conditioned as we are to follow titles and rules, we can also break those rules and change those titles to create more union and harmony amongst us. “We can either be followers of rules that are designed to constrain, fill hearts with guilt and shame, torture the mind and soul, or we can simply break free from it all.” She draws inspiration from the Drag community because they represent the open expression of who we truly are without the need to fit into a particular role.

“But art is a way to break free from the guilt, shame, and constraints that we are expected to follow. Art is a way to blur the lines of what is or isn’t accepted. Art is creation and art can create change.

Part of the reason why life can get so complex is that we can find it hard to understand each other. Not that we shouldn’t have boundaries with certain people, but to have the capacity to accept everyone for who they are. Except for the evil few, there’s a deep meaning in accepting each other, no matter what our personal preferences are, at any level.

Try opening up and expressing yourself in a unique way. Be authentic and a beacon of light and share it with others. Be yourself, don’t be afraid to do so, and share your creativity with the world. Whatever it means for you, find out what it is and explore it and do it, embrace it.” This is Sunny’s heartfelt message to the world, and it motivates us to care less about titles and identities, and care more about appreciating who we are.

Even if we don’t all agree on someone’s personal preferences to be identified as this or that, we are all made of the same essence, Divine love. Sunny Strange is a fascinating artist, inspiring us to awaken our inner divinity and free ourselves from imposed rules that go against the calling of our Creative Souls: to be free, to simply be, let be, and create.

Even if it’s shitty art, who cares, create. Art is art, and it is the expression of our creative souls, and it cannot be judged as good or as bad because it is not supposed to be good or bad. It is just supposed to exist, to be created by us, to be shared.” — Sunny Strange

CORY HOANG

CORY HOANG

For the most part, we want to see art that is colorful and beautiful. If the art portrays darkness, we tend to look the other way and can even go as far as to judge it thinking the worse, not only about the art but about the artist.

Why do we think this way? Why are we so afraid of the dark? Perhaps, it’s all the horror stories we may have heard when kids. Maybe, it’s because we have tasted its sour flavor, and we try anything to avoid it. Sometimes, no matter how much darkness something may show, we can find hints of hope within it to help awaken the light. Cory is a Dark Perspective Artist who expresses the dark side of the soul through his art to take charge of the darkness, cracking it open to let the light out.

Phuc Hoang, better known artistically as Cory Hoang, is a  Photographer, Graphic Designer, and Illustrator currently residing in Chicago, Illinois. In 2014, he moved with his family from Vietnam to the United States, leading him to experience a culture shock that caused him depression. Cory was encouraged to grab a camera and take pictures of the city to help him get his mind out of the funk. This awoke the photographer in him, and as he explored places and faces, he found himself falling in love with this art form and healing more and more.

Whether it’s a photo shoot or an illustration, Cory chooses to elevate the dark concept to help bring awareness about the mental troubles that many people are going through. But Cory does something very beautiful with his art, adding a hint of red, a rose, or a teddy bear, representing hope, healing light, and tenderness. His latest art project, Black Valentines, can be explored on his amazing website, amongst others, such as Toxic Love and Joker Harley Quinn, to mention a few.

Anxiety and depression are just a few of the dark elements that many are battling. Darkness can consume us in the slowest of ways, torturing our minds daily to push us away from the light that we always have available within. With his art, Cory wants to make sure that everyone knows that they are not alone on this troubling journey and that darkness is not all there is.

Cory is here to remind us that art is healing, and it helps to deal with real life, and sometimes we must take a look at the madness in our minds and try our best to take control of it.

Not everything that shows darkness is necessarily bad, and Cory’s art is not bad at all. On the contrary, it is fascinating, mindboggling, meaningful, and to perfection. He knows how to captivate emotions into a simple line and touch the depth of our hearts.

There will be moments when we will feel defeated by the darkness, and bringing our light to life may not be so easy to do. There is no doubt that darkness is brutal and this world is full of it. But, there is also as much light and our job is to try our best to remember that and find ways to express it.

We are all loners in our imaginary worlds, and you can be in this world and you can create and be anything you want to, be anywhere you want, at any time you want.

JOHN DOMINÉ

JOHN DOMINÉ

Photographer

When life gives us lemons, we better make a delicious and refreshing lemonade to share with everyone, and that is what John Dominé did during the collective challenge we experienced – and still are. John sought opportunities to expand his Creative Soul during the pandemic, reinventing how art in murals is interpreted. Oh, and did he reinvent it!

When we face drastic and abrupt upheavals, our perspective can shift to change our lifestyles—feeling cornered, and vulnerable to the unknown, pushes us to make important decisions. During these challenging times, John made one of the most magical decisions an artist can make: Fill the world with more art.

John Dominé is a professional photographer and mural art marionettist. His passion for photography started before digital cameras were invented. John has traveled the world capturing stunning shots, mainly of mural art. He has a way of showing the natural state of the moment, bringing out the artist’s genuine emotions and the sentiment behind the mural.

During the lockdown, John’s plans were locked up with him in his apartment in NYC. Thankfully, John was encouraged by his friend, Kalin Talbott, to participate in Tussen Kunst & Quarantine as well as the Getty Challenge. These projects encouraged John and Kalin to create art with items found around the house, sparking the idea of representing mural art.

After completing the challenges and still unable to travel across continents and fill his camera with smashing photos, John carried on with his friend’s brilliant idea of bringing the mural art to his home. How? By becoming the art in the murals himself as a marionette.

Choosing from his extensive gallery of murals from across the world, John decided to feature 365 artists in 365 days, including My Dog Sighs, Fin Dac and ROA. Initially, John used his artistic skills and painted the murals on his face, sharing a side-by-side picture of his recreation and a photo of the mural.

He then started giving the murals a broader representation using recycled boxes from all the online shopping that burst during the lockdown. John created marionettes out of the boxes to make the murals interactive.

To add more life to the mural, John puts on an off-the-chain performance, lip-syncing to songs that he feels have a connection with the street art he’s representing. His performances are outstanding, theatrical, and fun to watch, not to mention how similar he comes to the art in the murals. The videos are sure to awaken the energy of joy and make us carry a smile throughout the day. His current project, My Street Art Opera 2.0, is phenomenal and worth watching.

John is giving an honorable representation to all street artists and their alluring murals. He has received positive feedback from many of the artists he has featured through this beautiful project. He helps us distract from the chaos that our world is going through, and he inspires us to lighten up and keep creating, for it can be therapeutic.

Think outside the box!” John is encouraging us to try new things and not be afraid to take chances and make mistakes.

As we keep taking action, we keep evolving, and our art keeps transcending, and that’s how we help our world become a better place: when we are true to our Creative Souls and allow creativity to flow.

It’s not about calling yourself this or that; it’s about feeling it,” explains Jamie about his journey working as a Creative Soul, who, besides photography, is also passionate about music.

It takes courage and commitment to realize our dreams, and Jaime went beyond the limits of time and space to pursue his first music project. It might take us a long time to attain our goals, but they will come true if we put our hearts into our work. The most valuable thing we can do for our dreams is to appreciate them and treasure them just as they are. Seeing them come true, and holding them in our arms is fortunate enough to know that we “made it.”

Be yourself!” Jaime is encouraging us, “every detail in you is already perfect,” he adds with a genuine heart full of light. Jaime’s objective is to keep doing what he loves while being who he is. Jaime is living his dreams every day, realizing that everything he does is a dream come true.
